Zusammenfassung: | This is a pathbreaking comparative and trans-national study of the neglected influences of nation, empire and race upon the development and electoral fortunes of the Labour Party in Britain and the Australian Labor Party from their formative years of the 1900s to the elections of 2010. Based upon extensive primary and secondary source-based research in Britain and Australia over several years, it makes a new and original contribution to the fields of labour, imperial and ‘British world’ history. The book offers the challenging conclusion that the forces of nation, empire and race exerted much greater influence upon Labour politics in both countries than suggested by ‘traditionalists’ and ‘revisionists’ alike. The book will appeal to undergraduates, postgraduates, scholars in history and politics and all those interested in and concerned with the past, present and future of Labour politics in Britain, Australia and more generally |

The book will appeal to undergraduates, postgraduates, scholars in history and politics and all those interested in and concerned with the past, present and future of Labour politics in Britain, Australia and more generally Labour Party (Great Britain) / History Australian Labor Party / History Labour Party Großbritannien (DE-588)2124-6 gnd rswk-swf Australian Labor Party (DE-588)1038441-8 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1900-2010 gnd rswk-swf Colonialism & Imperialism / bicssc POLITICAL SCIENCE / Colonialism & Post-Colonialism. / bisach Colonialism & imperialism / History / thema Imperialism / History / 20th century Imperialismus (DE-588)4026651-5 gnd rswk-swf Great Britain / Politics and government / 20th century Australia / Politics and government / 1901-1945 Australia / Politics and government / 1945- Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 g Imperialismus (DE-588)4026651-5 s Labour Party Großbritannien (DE-588)2124-6 b Australian Labor Party (DE-588)1038441-8 b Geschichte 1900-2010 z DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover Kirk, Neville, 1947- Labour and the politics of Empire Manchester : Manchester University Press, 2011 978-0-7190-8079-1 (DE-604)BV039562430 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback Kirk, Neville, 1947- Labour and the politics of Empire First digital paperback edition Manchester : Manchester University Press, 2014 978-0-7190-9131-5 https://doi.org/10.7765/9781526118134 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
