Zusammenfassung: | 'Speech/Acts' brings together new and recent works by a generation of artists influenced by black experimental poetry. Recognizing language as a primary method of expressing and maintaining power, these artists use poetry as a tool to manipulate the conceptual and structural elements of language and the social contexts in which language is employed, appropriated and abstracted. Artists Jibade-Khalil Huffman, Steffani Jemison, Tony Lewis, Tiona Nekkia McClodden, Kameelah Janan Rasheed and Martine Syms all use experimental poetry in their work as a means to interrogate the power structures of language, rendering the experience of blackness more physically and affectively exact. In this volume, their work is presented alongside their poetic forerunners (seminal texts by Fred Moten and Harryette Mullen are reprinted), newly commissioned poetry by Morgan Parker and Simone White, and a new essay by curator Meg Onli |

Meg Onli Four Simone White Blackness and poetry Fred Moten Toward a new theory of negro propaganda Morgan Parker 'Speech/Acts' brings together new and recent works by a generation of artists influenced by black experimental poetry. In this volume, their work is presented alongside their poetic forerunners (seminal texts by Fred Moten and Harryette Mullen are reprinted), newly commissioned poetry by Morgan Parker and Simone White, and a new essay by curator Meg Onli Jemison, Steffani 1981- (DE-588)112675403X gnd rswk-swf Syms, Martine 1988- (DE-588)1074314158 gnd rswk-swf McClodden, Tiona Nekkia 1988- (DE-588)1170981321 gnd rswk-swf Huffman, Jibade-Khalil 1981- (DE-588)1137213523 gnd rswk-swf Rasheed, Kameelah Janan 1985- (DE-588)1150421703 gnd rswk-swf Lewis, Tony 1986- (DE-588)1104505975 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 2000-2017 gnd rswk-swf Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 gnd rswk-swf Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf Experimental poetry, American / Exhibitions American poetry / African American authors / Influence / Exhibitions Poetry and the arts / Exhibitions Experimental poetry, American Poetry and the arts American poetry / African American authors / Exhibitions Exhibition catalogs (DE-588)4135467-9 Ausstellungskatalog Institute of Contemporary Art, University of Pennsylvania 13.09.2017-23.12.2017 Philadelphia, Pa. gnd-content USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 s Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 s Geschichte 2000-2017 z DE-604 Huffman, Jibade-Khalil 1981- (DE-588)1137213523 p Jemison, Steffani 1981- (DE-588)112675403X p Lewis, Tony 1986- (DE-588)1104505975 p Rasheed, Kameelah Janan 1985- (DE-588)1150421703 p Syms, Martine 1988- (DE-588)1074314158 p McClodden, Tiona Nekkia 1988- (DE-588)1170981321 p Onli, Meg orm ctb Mullen, Harryette Romell 1953- (DE-588)122999207 ctb Moten, Fred 1962- (DE-588)1068658827 ctb White, Simone 1972- (DE-588)1162643285 ctb Parker, Morgan ca. 20./21.
