SUMMARY M.V. Konstantinov. Yuri Lotman's Semiotics in the Visual Arts of the Second Part of the Twentieth Century: Historical and Philosophical Analysis. Monograph. Visual perception is fundamentally changing with the development of screen culture era - the era of cinema, then television, the digital age with multiple computer screens, tablets, smart phones and other gadgets. The ability to visualize not only reality but also imaginary, virtual worlds appears and constantly expands. Visual perception turns from the most important means of world cognition to the most important influence channel on human consciousness, up to the entry into it and its control. One of the humanitarian knowledge areas, which are aimed at rationalizing and mastering the information flow received from the outside, including video information, became the semiotics - the doctrine of signs and sign systems. Accordingly, the visual semiotics is formed and developed in the twentieth centmy mostly as a cinema semiotics, although, it con- cems other visual practices too. The founder of the Tartu-Moscow semiotic school Yuri Mykhailovych Lotman, whose works, in particular from the cinema semiotics, are well known in the world, should certainly be included in this number, in context of «iconic», «pictorial», or «visual» turn in culture. Aim and tasks of the research. The aim of the research is reconstruction of Y.M. Lotman’s cinema semiotics conception as a part of his general structural and semiotic theory (in terms of its revolution) and defining of a place and a role of this conception in the development
of visual semiology (film semiology) on the main historical and philosophical transformations background of the second half of XX century. The research object is visual semiotics, i.e. semiotic investigation of visual art, developed on the base of structuralism, post structuralism and other philosophical streams of the twenties century. The research subject is the content and the meaning of Lotman’s structural and semiotic conception, in particular of his cinema semiotics and other visual art, within the historical and philosophical context, on the background of other approaches to the visual semiotics of the second half of XX century ( through examples of Roland Barthes and Christian Metz). In the first section of the thesis, based on the systematization of sources and the research methodology development, the concept of visual semiotics as a semiotic study was clarified, the subject of which is systems of iconic characters (according to Ch. Peirce's classification) or systems (art), where the role of such characters is predomi nant. The second section shows Yuri Lotman’s transition from the unidirectional model of the communicative act in art, developed by R. Jakobson, to the dialogical (under the influence of M. Bakhtin) and the polyglotic (multilingual) model, as well as the basic principles of the structural and semiotic analysis of the literary text by Yu.Lotman: hierarchy, isomorphism, homeomorphism, difference and similarity, dialectical relation of elements, and their application to visual arts analyses are formed. 3 |
