Zusammenfassung: | Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) have been produced commercially since be fore 1930. They proved to be highly versatile mixtures and their uses continued to expand during the early 1970's even after the unanticipated world-wide en vironmental contamination had been discovered (Jensen et aI. , 1969; Koeman et aI. , 1969). Over 600,000 metric-tons were produced and/or used in the U. S. during this time and it is estimated that worldwide production totaled about 1,200,000 metric-tons (Table 1). With low acute toxicities (Fishbein, 1974), these mixtures were considered gen erally biologically inactive even though industrial exposure had demonstrated he patic and dermatological effects (Fishbein, 1974; Hansen, 1987). Thus, use and disposal were not carefully monitored and it is estimated that one-third of the world-wide production of PCBs has been released into the global environment (Table 1). Table 1. Table 1. Re lease into the environment has declined dramatically in the last decade, but con tinued release from reservoirs (Table 1) into burdened ecosystems (Table 2) ap pears inevitable for several more decades (Barros et aI. , 1984) Environment Waste Water Technology / Water Pollution Control / Water Management / Aquatic Pollution Atmospheric Protection/Air Quality Control/Air Pollution Soil Science & Conservation Ecotoxicology Geoecology/Natural Processes Nature Conservation Geoecology Environmental geology Nature conservation Soil science Soil conservation Air pollution Water pollution Umweltgift (DE-588)4186801-8 gnd rswk-swf Toxikologie (DE-588)4060538-3 gnd rswk-swf Polychlorierte Biphenyle (DE-588)4140481-6 gnd rswk-swf Säugetiere (DE-588)4051253-8 gnd rswk-swf Umwelttoxikologie (DE-588)4121813-9 gnd rswk-swf PCB-Belastung (DE-588)4173588-2 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Säugetiere (DE-588)4051253-8 s PCB-Belastung (DE-588)4173588-2 s 2\p DE-604 Polychlorierte Biphenyle (DE-588)4140481-6 s Umwelttoxikologie (DE-588)4121813-9 s 3\p DE-604 Toxikologie (DE-588)4060538-3 s 4\p DE-604 Umweltgift (DE-588)4186801-8 s 5\p DE-604 Safe, Stephen edt Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 9783642705526 https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-70550-2 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
