Zusammenfassung: | A Man Comes from Someplace' is a story of a lost world, a story in history of a multi-generational Jewish family from a shtetl in Ukraine before WWI. As cultural study, the narrative draws upon the oral stories of the author?s father, family letters, eyewitness accounts, immigration papers, etc., and cultural research. The narrative becomes a transformative space to re-present story as performance, a meta-narrative, and an auto-ethnography for the author to reflect upon the effects of the stories on her own life, as daughter of a survivor, and as teacher/scholar. Summerfield raises questions about immigration, survival, resilience, place and identity, how story functions as antidote to trauma, a means of making sense of the world, and as resistance, the refusal to be silenced or erased, the insistence we know the past and remember those who came before. In 2011, she found her way back to the place her family came from in Ukraine. The book is now being read by students in their ESL classes in Novokonstantinov, Ukraine |

The book is now being read by students in their ESL classes in Novokonstantinov, Ukraine</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="648" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Geschichte Steinberg ; new afterword by the author Second edition Leiden ; Boston Brill Sense [2018] xxx, 273 Seiten Illustrationen, Karte txt rdacontent n rdamedia nc rdacarrier Transgressions volume 126 A Man Comes from Someplace' is a story of a lost world, a story in history of a multi-generational Jewish family from a shtetl in Ukraine before WWI. The book is now being read by students in their ESL classes in Novokonstantinov, Ukraine Geschichte 1920-2011 gnd rswk-swf Families / History Jewish families / Ukraine / History Jewish families / United States / History Storytelling POLITICAL SCIENCE / Public Policy / Cultural Policy bisacsh SOCIAL SCIENCE / Anthropology / Cultural bisacsh SOCIAL SCIENCE / Popular Culture bisacsh Families fast Jewish families fast Storytelling fast Geschichte Juden (DE-588)4028808-0 gnd rswk-swf Auswanderung (DE-588)4003920-1 gnd rswk-swf Einwanderung (DE-588)4013960-8 gnd rswk-swf Familie (DE-588)4016397-0 gnd rswk-swf Ukraine fast United States fast USA USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf Ukraine West (DE-588)4329560-5 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4006804-3 Biografie gnd-content Ukraine West (DE-588)4329560-5 g Juden (DE-588)4028808-0 s Familie (DE-588)4016397-0 s Auswanderung (DE-588)4003920-1 s USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Geschichte 1920-2011 z DE-604 Einwanderung (DE-588)4013960-8 s Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe 978-90-04-37097-5 Transgressions volume 126 (DE-604)BV025582986 126 Digitalisierung BSB Muenchen - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=030313802&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis Digitalisierung BSB Muenchen - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=030313802&sequence=000002&line_number=0002&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Literaturverzeichnis |
