Zusammenfassung: | Utilising archival research, court testimonies and eyewitness accounts of both survivors and military and civilian personnel, this book argues its case in three ways. Part I analyses the modalities of coercion employed by the authorities and investigates the historical differences and continuities between licensed peacetime prostitution and wartime sexual slavery. Part II then examines the failures of the Asian Women's Fund to resolve the 'comfort women' issue, whilst Part III explores the removal of 'comfort women' content from school history texts after the late 1990s and details Japan's diplomatic efforts to prevent war victims from suing the post-war state. Presenting a strong argument in opposition to the revisionist school of thought, this book ultimately concludes that a realistic settlement would see a victim-oriented solution that the survivors can accept. -- Website |

spelling | Denying the comfort women the Japanese State's assault on historical truth edited by Nishino Rumiko, Kim Puja and Onozawa Akane, with the Violence Against Women in War Research Action Center ; adapted from the Japanese by Robert Ricketts London ; New York Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group 2018 xix, 267 Seiten Illustrationen txt rdacontent n rdamedia nc rdacarrier Asia's transformations 52 Comfort women, the Kōno statement, and the quest for truth -- Why the Asian Women's Fund was not a solution -- A realistic settlement is a settlement that victimized women can accept Utilising archival research, court testimonies and eyewitness accounts of both survivors and military and civilian personnel, this book argues its case in three ways. -- Website Geschichte 1991- gnd rswk-swf Japanisch-Chinesischer Krieg 1937-1945 (DE-588)4073002-5 gnd rswk-swf Zwangsprostituierte (DE-588)4654442-2 gnd rswk-swf Politik (DE-588)4046514-7 gnd rswk-swf Zwangsprostitution (DE-588)4767139-7 gnd rswk-swf Kollektives Gedächtnis (DE-588)4200793-8 gnd rswk-swf Japan (DE-588)4028495-5 gnd rswk-swf World War (1939-1945) Comfort women / Asia Comfort women / Legal status, laws, etc / Asia World War, 1939-1945 / Women / Asia Comfort women Comfort women / Legal status, laws, etc Women Asia 1939-1945 (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Japan (DE-588)4028495-5 g Kollektives Gedächtnis (DE-588)4200793-8 s Politik (DE-588)4046514-7 s Zwangsprostituierte (DE-588)4654442-2 s Geschichte 1991- z DE-604 Japanisch-Chinesischer Krieg 1937-1945 (DE-588)4073002-5 s Zwangsprostitution (DE-588)4767139-7 s Nishino, Rumiko 1952- (DE-588)143475878 edt Kim, Puja 1958- (DE-588)173897711 edt Onozawa, Akane 1963- (DE-588)14248315X edt Ricketts, Robert C.
