From coeditors Eric Scerri and Guillermo
Restrepo, Mendeleev to Oganesson features
a highly interdisciplinary collection
of essays on the periodic table from
today s leading authors in the field.
The chapters include fifteen edited papers
on many aspects of the periodic table
including contributions from the worlds
of chemistry, physics, geology, mathematics,
history of science, science education, and
linguistics. The book began following the
Third International Conference on the
Periodic Table that was held in 2012 in
Cuzco, Peru, the first conference of its
kind in more than a decade.
As the world approaches the 150th
anniversary in 2019 of the publication
of Mendeleevs periodic table in 1869,
the authors’ work as periodic table
scholars remains as timely as ever. In
the growing subfield of the philosophy
of chemistry, this book is unique in
approaching it from a multidisciplinary
perspective. Mendeleev to Oganesson is
sure to join the ranks as one of the most
important works in the emerging body
of literature on the periodic table.
