Zusammenfassung:"It was the intention of Aperiodic'94 to promote the theoretical and methodological development of crystallographic investigations of aperiodic crystals including modulated structures, poly types, incommensurate misfit or composite crystals and quasicrystals. The conference also favored scientific interchange among groups working in various fields of aperiodic materials and connected disciplines. Special emphasis was given to the multidisciplinary aspects of aperiodicity. A close look at the proceedings will show that the Diablerets conference did indeed cover the broad spectrum of aperiodicity in the structure of matter. The reader will be surprised by the constant evolution of the field both from the theoretical and experimental aspects. The superspace approach which is currently used to describe the symmetry of quasiperiodic systems is now firmly established. This generalization of the concept of symmetry has played the role of a catalyst in the discovery of new non-periodic systems and in the elaboration of theoretical models for their description. Concepts like non-Euclidean symmetry developed for the characterisation of non-periodic structures appear to have some unexpected fallouts for the description of conventional periodic structures. New mathematical studies also revealed interesting ideas in the field of space tiling."--Foreword
