Zusammenfassung:This book is a collection of five papers on defect processes. Chapter I provides an overview of the subject matter. Chapter II describes the theoretical background and theoretical developments for understanding the defect processes. The studies of Chapter III on luminescence have yielded important information of the nature of the self-trapped excitons. Chapters IV and V deals with the major modern techniques of revealing the defect formation processes; time-resolved spectroscopy in the picosecond regime and the cascade excitation spectroscopy. These chapters describe the extent of our understanding of the defect formation processes in alkali halides. The last chapter deals with the surface processes, for which understanding is not yet sufficient
