International Center of Photography (ICP), New York, NY.
The Roman Vishniac Archive at ICP is the principal repository
for Vishniac’s life’s work, containing nearly 50,000 items,
includes negatives, prints, contact sheets, slides, personal
and professional correspondence, newspaper clippings,
unpublished book and article manuscripts, lecture notes,
exhibition announcements, audio recordings, film footage,
and a wide range of materials pertaining to Vishniac's
personal life and professional career.
United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM),
Washington, DC. In partnership with ICP, the USHMM
Photo Archives maintains the Roman Vishniac Online
Database, a comprehensive inventory of Vishniac’s negatives
and prints. The database reflects ongoing research into
the history of the lives and communities of the people
Vishniac photographed.
University of South Carolina (USC), Columbia, SC.
The Roman Vishniac Collection, part of the Moving Image
Research Collection at USC, contains approximately
156,000 feet of motion picture film including Vishniac's
scientific films and home movies. The collection also
includes photographic materials and papers relating to
Vishniac's scientific work.
American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (AJDC),
New York, NY. The AJDC Archives and Collections include
hundreds of vintage and press prints by Vishniac, as well as
documents and ephemera relating to his work on assignment
for the JDC.The AJDC Archive also holds the unique book
maquette, A Pictorial Visit to the Jewish Children
in Poland (assembled ca. 1938).
Jiidisches Museum Berlin (JMB), Berlin, Germany.
The JMB Archive and Collections houses a substantial
collection of negatives, prints, and contact sheets by
Vishniac focusing on his photographs of and life in Berlin.
YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, New York, NY.
The YIVO Archives contain prints by Vishniac, as well as
documents relating to the photographer's life and work, and
that of his contemporaries.
Fotostiftung Schweiz (FSS), Winterthur, Switzerland.
The FSS Collections include hundreds of Vishniac prints
and correspondence between Vishniac, the founding director
of FSS, and filmmaker Erwin Leiser.
