This educational unit deals with a unique
document that follows the story of one
transport arriving at Auschwitz-Birkenau in
the spring of i 944. The unit will introduce
the teacher to the use of photographs as
a historical document that emphasizes
the pictorial document. In order to create
a full view of this information one must
combine the knowledge gained from the
photographs with additional sources such
as last letters and testimonies.
Using these sources the student will learn
about the Final Solution and its process,
about Auschwitz-Birkenau serving not only
as an extermination camp for the majority
of its arrivals but also as a concentration
camp for those selected to work.
As part of Yad Vashem’s educational
philosophy we will try to regain the victims'
humanity. This unit is combined with two
lessons, the Auschwitz Album photos,
testimonies and handouts for teachers
and students and also includes a CD
with information for presentation and
distribution in the classroom. |
