VOLUME 41
Non-state actors play a crucial role in conflict and post-conflict
environments, one too often overshadowed in scholarship by
attention to the state. This volume focuses specifically on the
interests and agency of non-state actors, with particular attention
paid to the ways in which they play a part in, or experience
themselves, political change. As non-state actors interact with
one another and with the state, they respond to and reshape
the political context within which opportunities are created or
closed, policies fail or succeed, and groups organize or dissolve.
Collectively, the contributors demonstrate these dynamics by
examining a range of nonviolent social movement organizations
and non-state violent actors.
