Zusammenfassung: | "The fiftieth anniversary of the Adolf Eichmann trial may have come and gone but in many countries around the world there is a renewed focus on the trial, Eichmann himself, and the nature of his crimes. This increased attention also stimulates scrutiny of Hannah Arendt's influential and controversial work, Eichmann in Jerusalem."-- "The contributors gathered together by Richard J. Golsan and Sarah M. Misemer in The Trial That Never Ends assess the contested legacy of Hannah Arendt's famous book and the issues she raised: the "banality of evil," the possibility of justice in the aftermath of monstrous crimes, the right of Israel to kidnap and judge Eichmann, and the agency and role of victims. The contributors also interrogate Arendt's own ambivalent attitudes towards race and critically interpret the nature of the crimes Eichmann committed in light of newly discovered Nazi documents. Hannah Arendt s
Jerusalem in Retrospect
EDITED BY RICHARD J. GOLSAN
AND SARAH AA. AAISEAAER
Although the fiftieth anniversary of the
Adolf Eichmann trial was in 2012, there
has recently been a renewed focus on
the trial, Eichmann himself, and the
nature of his crimes. This increased at-
tention has also stimulated scrutiny of
Hannah Arendt’s influential and contro-
versial work, Eichmann in Jerusalem.
The contributors gathered together
by Richard J. Golsan and Sarah A
AAisemer in The Trial That Never Ends
assess the contested legacy of Hannah
Arendt’s famous book and the issues
she raised: the “banality of evil,” the
possibility of justice in the aftermath
of monstrous crimes, the right of Israel
to kidnap and judge Eichmann, and
the agency and role of victims. The
contributors also interrogate Arendt s
own ambivalent attitudes towards race
and critically interpret the nature of the
crimes Eichmann committed in Light of
newly discovered Nazi documents. The
Trial That Never Ends responds to new
scholarship by Deborah Lipstadt, Bettina
Stangneth, and Shoshana Felman and
offers rich new ground for historical,
legal, philosophical, and psychological
speculation.

Misemer Toronto ; Buffalo ; London University of Toronto Press [2017] viii, 255 Seiten txt rdacontent n rdamedia nc rdacarrier German and European studies 27 "The fiftieth anniversary of the Adolf Eichmann trial may have come and gone but in many countries around the world there is a renewed focus on the trial, Eichmann himself, and the nature of his crimes. The Trial That Never Ends responds to new scholarship by Deborah Lipstadt, Bettina Stangneth, and Shoshana Felman and offers rich new ground for historical, legal, philosophical, and psychological speculation."-- Eichmann, Adolf 1906-1962 (DE-588)118529447 gnd rswk-swf Arendt, Hannah 1906-1975 Eichmann in Jerusalem (DE-588)4430639-8 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1900-2000 Geschichte Judenvernichtung (DE-588)4073091-8 gnd rswk-swf Prozess (DE-588)4047577-3 gnd rswk-swf Naher Osten Arendt, Hannah / 1906-1975 / Eichmann in Jerusalem Arendt, Hannah / 1906-1975 / Criticism and interpretation Eichmann, Adolf / 1906-1962 / Trials, litigation, etc Arendt, Hannah / 1906-1975 Eichmann, Adolf / 1906-1962 Holocaust, Jewish (1939-1945) Eichmann in Jerusalem (Arendt, Hannah) War crime trials / Jerusalem Good and evil / History / 20th century Good and evil War crime trials Middle East / Jerusalem 1900-1999 Criticism, interpretation, etc History Trials, litigation, etc (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Arendt, Hannah 1906-1975 Eichmann in Jerusalem (DE-588)4430639-8 u DE-604 Eichmann, Adolf 1906-1962 (DE-588)118529447 p Prozess (DE-588)4047577-3 s Judenvernichtung (DE-588)4073091-8 s Golsan, Richard Joseph 1952- (DE-588)13248661X edt Misemer, Sarah M.
