The extraordinary renown of Kupezky’s work at the time is evidenced in the dozens of graphic transcriptions made of his paintings, chiefly during the last years of his life and shortly after his death. The majority of these prints were rendered using the mezzotint method, originally called "black art". The publication provides the history of this effective technique, which reached the height of its popularity and quality in the eighteenth century.
