Zusammenfassung:This catalogue was published to accompany an intimate exhibition of drawings and prints reproducing the artworks of the famous master of Baroque portrait painting, Johann Kupezky (1666–1740). The extraordinary renown of Kupezky’s work at the time is evidenced in the dozens of graphic transcriptions made of his paintings, chiefly during the last years of his life and shortly after his death. The majority of these prints were rendered using the mezzotint method, originally called "black art". The publication provides the history of this effective technique, which reached the height of its popularity and quality in the eighteenth century. The publication presents excellent works by the leading German masters of the mezzotint medium – Bernhard Vogel, Valentin Daniel Preisler, and Johann Jacob Haid – who had links to Johann Kupezky and his artwork
