Zusammenfassung: | Queen Victoria, who also bore the title of Empress of India, had a real and abiding interest in the British Empire, but other European monarchs also ruled over possessions 'beyond the seas'. This collection of original essays explores the connections between monarchy and colonialism, from the old regime empires down to the Commonwealth of today. With case studies drawn from Britain, France, the Netherlands, Germany and Italy, the chapters analyse constitutional questions about the role of the crown in overseas empires, the pomp and pageantry of the monarchy as it transferred to the colonies, and the fate of indigenous sovereigns under European colonial control. The volume, with chapters on North America, Asia, Africa and Australasia, provides new perspectives on colonial history, the governance of empire, and the transnational history of monarchies in modern Europe |

The volume, with chapters on North America, Asia, Africa and Australasia, provides new perspectives on colonial history, the governance of empire, and the transnational history of monarchies in modern Europe Geschichte 1850-2016 gnd rswk-swf Colonialism & imperialism / bicssc European history / bicssc HISTORY / Europe / General / bisach Colonialism & imperialism / European history / Western Europe / thema Imperialism Monarchy / Europe Imperialismus (DE-588)4026651-5 gnd rswk-swf Kolonialismus (DE-588)4073624-6 gnd rswk-swf Monarchie (DE-588)4040034-7 gnd rswk-swf Europe / Colonies Europe / Politics and government Europe / Foreign relations (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift 2014 Sydney gnd-content Kolonialismus (DE-588)4073624-6 s Imperialismus (DE-588)4026651-5 s Monarchie (DE-588)4040034-7 s Geschichte 1850-2016 z DE-604 Aldrich, Robert 1954- (DE-588)1015080839 edt McCreery, Cindy 1968- (DE-588)1159669805 edt Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 978-1-78499-315-3 (DE-604)BV043772127 https://doi.org/10.7765/9781526100887 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
