Zusammenfassung: | "This collection of essays explores the multi-cultural, multi-religious, and multi-lingual context of learning on the eve of the Copernican revolution. Although Copernicus's work and its influence have been subject to a number of excellent studies, there has been surprisingly little attention paid to Copernicus's sources and the diverse cultures and contexts of learning in which he lived and by which he could have been inspired. Previous authors who have attended to this background have tended to put forth singular and rather narrow explanations of Copernicus's turn to heliocentrism. In contrast, this volume does not seek to provide "the" explanation, or even "an" explanation, but rather provides the reader with aspects of the complex and surprisingly rich intellectual and scientific world before Copernicus."-- |

Jamil Ragep -- Jews as Scientific Intermediaries in the European Renaissance / Robert Morrison "This collection of essays explores the multi-cultural, multi-religious, and multi-lingual context of learning on the eve of the Copernican revolution. In contrast, this volume does not seek to provide "the" explanation, or even "an" explanation, but rather provides the reader with aspects of the complex and surprisingly rich intellectual and scientific world before Copernicus."-- Geschichte 1400-1500 Geschichte 1400-1500 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Naturwissenschaft Geistesleben (DE-588)4274490-8 gnd rswk-swf Wissenschaftstransfer (DE-588)4207539-7 gnd rswk-swf Kultur (DE-588)4125698-0 gnd rswk-swf Wissenschaft (DE-588)4066562-8 gnd rswk-swf Astronomie (DE-588)4003311-9 gnd rswk-swf Kulturkontakt (DE-588)4033569-0 gnd rswk-swf Europa Naher Osten (DE-588)4068878-1 gnd rswk-swf Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 gnd rswk-swf Astronomy / Europe / History / 15th century Science / Europe / History / 15th century Learning / Europe / History / 15th century Europe / Intellectual life / 15th century Astronomy Intellectual life Learning Science Europe 1400-1499 History (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 g Naher Osten (DE-588)4068878-1 g Wissenschaft (DE-588)4066562-8 s Astronomie (DE-588)4003311-9 s Wissenschaftstransfer (DE-588)4207539-7 s Geschichte 1400-1500 z DE-604 Kultur (DE-588)4125698-0 s Kulturkontakt (DE-588)4033569-0 s Geistesleben (DE-588)4274490-8 s Feldhay, Rivka edt Ragep, F.
