Inclusion is inherently ethical, as access to equitable learning
opportunities and experiences is a human right. While educational
systems and schools have adopted the practice of inclusion
internationally, many continue to face ethical-based questions,
concerns, and challenges. This volume focuses on the ethics of
inclusive education, drawing on principles of equity, justice, and
care. The role of professional ethics in the context of teaching
and learning in inclusive settings needs to be explored in order to
work toward more meaningful and effective inclusionary practices.
Authors of this book are academics, researchers, practitioners, and
consultants working within special education, inclusive education,
teacher education, and psychology. Many are champions and
advocates for inclusion, thus providing highly relevant research-
informed perspectives and knowledge, grounded in practice, that
will be of value to all of those engaged in endeavors of ethics,
equity, and inclusive education around the globe. Discussions in this
volume encompass Indigenous ethics, epistemologies and inclusive
pedagogies, inclusionary practices for students at the elementary and
secondary level, the value of technology and multimodal pedagogies
in increasing accessibility to learning, notions of co-teaching,
assessment practices, and ethical challenges in
inclusive education.
