Zusammenfassung:Joke Van den Heuvel creates images by using existing footage that fascinates her: the shattered metacarpals of Michelangelo’s Piëta, the hand of a girl by Rodin, hands of begging greek citizend in the middle of the Greek crisis and is engaged by the more airy yet fantastic inspirational images from Pluto, taken by New Horizons, the first Space Craft that flew this close to the planet in July 2015. Moreover, Pluton the god of the underworld, kidnaps Proserpina, daughter of Ceres and Jupiter, because he wants to marry her and make her Queen of the Underworld in the myth about the origin of the seasons. During her stay in Rome, Joke Van den Heuvel, discovers the image of Bernini: The abduction of Proserpina. In the meantime she reads The Book of Disquiet by Fernando Pessoa. All this inspires her, through free combinations , associations and appropriations of these to make video work and book.
