Recognizing the need to learn more about this crucial period of life, the National Research Council and the Institute of Medicine convened a panel of experts to examine how the transition to adulthood is changing in developing countries in light of globalization and what the implications of these changes might be for those responsible for designing youth policies and programmes. According to the panel's findings, important transformations in young people's lives are under way. In much of the developing world adolescence is a stage of life that is gaining in significance. Young people now have more time than ever before to acquire the information and skills necessary to become effective participants in decisions about their futures. Nevertheless, the book highlights the persistent disadvantages for young women relative to young men, and the special needs of the poor. Youth living in sub-Saharan Africa are also identified to be of special concern. -- Description from http://www.bookdepository.com (Oct. 6, 2011) |

National Academies Press ©2005 xiv, 700 pages txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Includes bibliographical references and index Introduction -- Conceptual framework -- Schooling -- Health -- The transition to work -- The transition to citizenship -- The transition to marriage -- The transition to parenthood -- The way forward The transition to adulthood is a critical stage in human development during which young people leave childhood behind, and take on new roles and responsibilities. 6, 2011) School-to-work Transition Young Adults Youth Adulthood Jeunes adultes / Pays en voie de développement Adultes / Pays en voie de développement Transition école-travail / Pays en voie de développement Jeunesse / Pays en voie de développement Adulthood fast School-to-work transition fast Young adults fast Youth fast Jongeren gtt Volwassenwording gtt Internationalisatie gtt Arbeitswelt swd Heranwachsender swd Jugend swd Schule swd Übergang swd SOCIAL SCIENCE / Discrimination & Race Relations bisacsh SOCIAL SCIENCE / Minority Studies bisacsh Entwicklungsländer Globalisierung Jugend Young adults Developing countries Youth Developing countries Adulthood Developing countries School-to-work transition Developing countries Arbeitswelt (DE-588)4002805-7 gnd rswk-swf Jugend (DE-588)4028859-6 gnd rswk-swf Heranwachsender (DE-588)4072431-1 gnd rswk-swf Schule (DE-588)4053474-1 gnd rswk-swf Entwicklungsländer (DE-588)4014954-7 gnd rswk-swf Entwicklungsländer (DE-588)4014954-7 g Schule (DE-588)4053474-1 s Arbeitswelt (DE-588)4002805-7 s 1\p DE-604 Heranwachsender (DE-588)4072431-1 s 2\p DE-604 Jugend (DE-588)4028859-6 s 3\p DE-604 Lloyd, Cynthia B. 1943- Sonstige oth National Research Council (U.S.) Sonstige oth 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
