Further Reading
There is plenty of information in English on the Menshevik wing of
Russian Marxism. Much of it is scattered around the innumerable books
and articles published on Russian and Soviet history, the Russian revolu-
tionary movement, and the history of the CPSU, although some of it is
ill-informed or tendentious. Most of the scholarly work on Menshevism
is available only in Russian. The émigrés themselves generally preferred
to write their own history in that language, and since the collapse of
CPSU rule in 1991 the centre of gravity for quality research on the
political history of the Russian revolutionary movement has naturally
returned to Russia. Many of the most recent Russian-language works
are referenced in the endnotes to the introduction to this volume.
As for English-language books devoted to the history of the
Menshevik movement or its individual leaders, the following titles are
all very useful.
