Zusammenfassung: | This illuminating volume provides a new understanding of the subjective identity and public roles of Russia's Europeanized elite between the years of 1762 and 1825. Through a series of rich case studies, the editors reconstruct the social group's worldview, complex identities, conflicting loyalties, and evolving habits. The studies explore the institutions that shaped these nobles, their attitude to state service, the changing patterns of their family life, their emotional world, religious beliefs, and sense of time. The creation of a Europeanized elite in Russia was a state-initiated project that aimed to overcome the presumed "backwardness" of the country. The evolution of this social group in its relations to political authority provides insight into the fraught identity of a country developing on the geopolitical periphery of Europe. In contrast to postcolonial studies that explore the imposition of political, social, and cultural structures on colonized societies, this multidisciplinary volume explores the patterns of behavior and emotion that emerge from the processes of self-Europeanization. The Europeanized Elite in Russia, 1762 1825 will appeal to scholars and general readers interested in Russian history and culture, particularly in light of current political debates about globalization and widening social inequality in Europe |

spelling | The Europeanized elite in Russia, 1762-1825 public role and subjective self edited by Andreas Schönle, Andrei Zorin, and Alexei Evstratov DeKalb Northern Illinois University Press [2016] © 2016 viii, 371 Seiten Illustrationen txt rdacontent n rdamedia nc rdacarrier Includes bibliographical references This illuminating volume provides a new understanding of the subjective identity and public roles of Russia's Europeanized elite between the years of 1762 and 1825. The Europeanized Elite in Russia, 1762 1825 will appeal to scholars and general readers interested in Russian history and culture, particularly in light of current political debates about globalization and widening social inequality in Europe Text englisch Geschichte 1700-1800 Geschichte 1800-1900 Geschichte 1762-1825 gnd rswk-swf Elite (Social sciences) / Russia / History / 18th century Elite (Social sciences) / Russia / History / 19th century Elite (Social sciences) fast International relations fast Social conditions fast Geschichte Internationale Politik Elite (DE-588)4014457-4 gnd rswk-swf Russia / Social conditions / 18th century Russia / Social conditions / 1801-1917 Russia / Relations / Europe Europe / Relations / Russia Europe fast Russia fast Europa Russland Russland (DE-588)4076899-5 gnd rswk-swf England (DE-588)4014770-8 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Russland (DE-588)4076899-5 g England (DE-588)4014770-8 g Elite (DE-588)4014457-4 s Geschichte 1762-1825 z DE-604 Schönle, Andreas 1962- (DE-588)133925234 edt Zorin, Andrej Leonidovič 1956- (DE-588)1085165604 edt Evstratov, Alexeï 1983- (DE-588)1108107435 edt Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe (ebook) 978-1-609-09207-8 https://www.recensio.net/r/2c99b7736a254500ac52750c3954fafa rezensiert in: Jahrbücher für Geschichte Osteuropas / jgo.e-reviews, jgo.e-reviews 2019, 2 Rezension Digitalisierung BSB Muenchen - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=029360393&sequence=000004&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis Digitalisierung BSB Muenchen - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=029360393&sequence=000005&line_number=0002&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Literaturverzeichnis Digitalisierung BSB Muenchen - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=029360393&sequence=000006&line_number=0003&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Register // Gemischte Register |
