Zusammenfassung: | Why are there so few women scientists? Persisting differences between women's and men's experiences in science make this question as relevant today as it ever was. This book sets out to answer this question, and to propose solutions for the future. Based on extensive research, it emphasizes that science is an intensely social activity. Despite the scientific ethos of universalism and inclusion, scientists and their institutions are not immune to the prejudices of society as a whole. By presenting women's experiences at all key career stages - from childhood to retirement - the authors reveal the hidden barriers, subtle exclusions and unwritten rules of the scientific workplace, and the effects, both professional and personal, that these have on the female scientist. This important book should be read by all scientists - both male and female - and sociologists, as well as women thinking of embarking on a scientific career |

This important book should be read by all scientists - both male and female - and sociologists, as well as women thinking of embarking on a scientific career Women in science Women in technology Frau (DE-588)4018202-2 gnd rswk-swf Wissenschaft (DE-588)4066562-8 gnd rswk-swf Technik (DE-588)4059205-4 gnd rswk-swf Naturwissenschaften (DE-588)4041421-8 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)4113937-9 Hochschulschrift gnd-content Technik (DE-588)4059205-4 s Frau (DE-588)4018202-2 s 2\p DE-604 Naturwissenschaften (DE-588)4041421-8 s 3\p DE-604 Wissenschaft (DE-588)4066562-8 s 4\p DE-604 Kemelgor, Carol 1944- Sonstige oth Uzzi, Brian 1960- Sonstige oth Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-56380-2 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-78738-3 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511541414 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
