Zusammenfassung: | What is the place of Europe in the origin of humankind? Whilst our earliest human ancestors may have come out of Africa, many of our more recent ancestors, and those of other primates, left their fossil remains in Europe and the Near East. Hominoid primates including Dryopithecus in Spain and Hungary, Oreopithecus in Italy and Ouranopithecus in Greece flourished in the Miocene, between about 10-7 million years ago. This volume examines these and other hominoid fossils found in Eurasia and discusses what we can learn from them using biostratigraphic and ecological frameworks. In addition, new methods of analysing and visualising fossil hominoids are explored, including CT-based and computer-assisted virtual reconstruction of fossils to allow three-dimensional images of external and internal morphology of even fragmentary or distorted fossils. This volume will therefore be invaluable for practising palaeoanthropologists and palaeontologists whatever their specialism |

Richmond and Michael Whalen -- Sivapithecus and hominoid evolution: some brief comments / David R. Pilbeam and Nathan M. Young What is the place of Europe in the origin of humankind? This volume will therefore be invaluable for practising palaeoanthropologists and palaeontologists whatever their specialism Klimaänderung Paläontologie Primates, Fossil / Eurasia Paleontology / Neogene Climatic changes / Eurasia Hominids / Evolution Mensch (DE-588)4038639-9 gnd rswk-swf Menschenähnliche (DE-588)4122279-9 gnd rswk-swf Neogen (DE-588)4130779-3 gnd rswk-swf Phylogenie (DE-588)4076110-1 gnd rswk-swf Evolution (DE-588)4071050-6 gnd rswk-swf Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 gnd rswk-swf Eurasien (DE-588)4015685-0 gnd rswk-swf Eurasien (DE-588)4015685-0 g Neogen (DE-588)4130779-3 s Menschenähnliche (DE-588)4122279-9 s Phylogenie (DE-588)4076110-1 s 1\p DE-604 Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 g Mensch (DE-588)4038639-9 s Evolution (DE-588)4071050-6 s 2\p DE-604 Bonis, Louis de edt Koufos, George D. edt Andrews, Peter 1940- edt Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-66075-4 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511600449 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
