Zusammenfassung: | This is the first detailed survey of democratic ideas on the British Left in the period leading to 1914. Socialists of the late nineteenth century inherited assumptions about the priority of democracy from a long tradition of British Radicalism. However, the advent of the Fabians, who rejected this tradition as primitive, and of an ILP leadership more concerned to enter than reform parliament, meant that the movement was split between 'strong' and 'weak' views of democracy. By the eve of the First World War a consensus was emerging that might have formed the basis for a more realistic and more radical approach to democracy than has actually been pursued by the Labour Party and the Left during the twentieth century. Democratic Ideas and the British Labour Movement assesses an important debate in the history of socialist ideas and in the formation of the British Labour movement |

Democratic Ideas and the British Labour Movement assesses an important debate in the history of socialist ideas and in the formation of the British Labour movement Labour Party (Great Britain) / History Labour Party Großbritannien (DE-588)2124-6 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1880-1914 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Gewerkschaft Politik Labor movement / Great Britain / History Labor unions / Political activity / Great Britain / History Socialism / Great Britain Democracy / Great Britain / History Arbeiterbewegung (DE-588)4002581-0 gnd rswk-swf Demokratie (DE-588)4011413-2 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien Great Britain / Politics and government / 1901-1936 Great Britain / Politics and government / 1837-1901 Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 g Arbeiterbewegung (DE-588)4002581-0 s Demokratie (DE-588)4011413-2 s Geschichte 1880-1914 z 1\p DE-604 Labour Party Großbritannien (DE-588)2124-6 b 2\p DE-604 Bullock, Ian 1941- Sonstige (DE-588)171548787 oth Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-02414-3 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-56042-9 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511521287 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext SWB Datenaustausch application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=029338960&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
