Zusammenfassung: | The political and religious upheavals of the seventeenth century caused an unprecedented number of people to emigrate, voluntarily or not, from England. Among these exiles were some of the most important authors in the Anglo-American canon. In this 2007 book, Christopher D'Addario explores how early modern authors thought and wrote about the experience of exile in relation both to their lost homeland and to the new communities they created for themselves abroad. He analyses the writings of first-generation New England Puritans, the Royalists in France during the English Civil War, and the 'interior exiles' of John Milton and John Dryden. D'Addario explores the nature of artistic creation from the religious and political margins of early modern England, and in doing so, provides detailed insight into the psychological and material pressures of displacement and a much overdue study of the importance of exile to the development of early modern literature |

D'Addario explores the nature of artistic creation from the religious and political margins of early modern England, and in doing so, provides detailed insight into the psychological and material pressures of displacement and a much overdue study of the importance of exile to the development of early modern literature Bradstreet, Anne / 1612?-1672 / History and criticism Hobbes, Thomas / 1588-1679 / History and criticism Milton, John / 1608-1674 / History and criticism Dryden, John / 1631-1700 / History and criticism Dryden, John 1631-1700 (DE-588)118680897 gnd rswk-swf Milton, John 1608-1674 (DE-588)118582607 gnd rswk-swf Hobbes, Thomas 1588-1679 (DE-588)118551698 gnd rswk-swf Bradstreet, Anne 1612-1672 (DE-588)118659758 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1600-1700 Geschichte 1600-1700 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte English literature / Early modern, 1500-1700 / History and criticism Exile (Punishment) in literature Politics and literature / Great Britain / History / 17th century Literature and society / Great Britain / History / 17th century American literature / Colonial period, ca. 1600-1775 / History and criticism American literature / Puritan authors / History and criticism Englisch (DE-588)4014777-0 gnd rswk-swf Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 gnd rswk-swf Reise Motiv (DE-588)4115736-9 gnd rswk-swf Exil Motiv (DE-588)4139659-5 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien Englisch (DE-588)4014777-0 s Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 s Exil Motiv (DE-588)4139659-5 s Reise Motiv (DE-588)4115736-9 s Geschichte 1600-1700 z 1\p DE-604 Dryden, John 1631-1700 (DE-588)118680897 p 2\p DE-604 Bradstreet, Anne 1612-1672 (DE-588)118659758 p 3\p DE-604 Milton, John 1608-1674 (DE-588)118582607 p 4\p DE-604 Hobbes, Thomas 1588-1679 (DE-588)118551698 p 5\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-87029-0 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-1-107-40541-7 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511483547 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
