Zusammenfassung: | This bold and unabashedly utopian book advances the thesis that Marx's notion of communism is a defensible, normative ideal. However, unlike many others who have written in this area, Levine applies the tools and techniques of analytic philosophy to formulate and defend his radical, political programme. The argument proceeds by filtering the ideals and institutions of Marxism through Rousseau's notion of the 'general will'. Once Rousseau's ideas are properly understood it is possible to construct a community of equals who share some vision of a common good that can be achieved and maintained through cooperation or coordination that is at once both voluntary and authoritative. The book engages with liberal theory in order to establish its differences from Rousseauean-Marxian political theory. This provocative book will be of particular interest to political philosophers and political scientists concerned with Marxism, socialist theory and democratic theory |

This bold and unabashedly utopian book advances the thesis that Marx's notion of communism is a defensible, normative ideal. This provocative book will be of particular interest to political philosophers and political scientists concerned with Marxism, socialist theory and democratic theory Rousseau, Jean-Jacques / 1712-1778 Marx, Karl / 1818-1883 Rousseau, Jean-Jacques 1712-1778 (DE-588)118603426 gnd rswk-swf Marx, Karl 1818-1883 (DE-588)118578537 gnd rswk-swf General will State, The Communist state Democracy Volonté générale (DE-588)4356121-4 gnd rswk-swf Theorie (DE-588)4059787-8 gnd rswk-swf Marxismus (DE-588)4037764-7 gnd rswk-swf Politische Theorie (DE-588)4046563-9 gnd rswk-swf Demokratie (DE-588)4011413-2 gnd rswk-swf Politische Philosophie (DE-588)4076226-9 gnd rswk-swf Staat (DE-588)4056618-3 gnd rswk-swf Volonté générale (DE-588)4356121-4 s Staat (DE-588)4056618-3 s Theorie (DE-588)4059787-8 s Marxismus (DE-588)4037764-7 s 1\p DE-604 Demokratie (DE-588)4011413-2 s Politische Philosophie (DE-588)4076226-9 s 2\p DE-604 Rousseau, Jean-Jacques 1712-1778 (DE-588)118603426 p Politische Theorie (DE-588)4046563-9 s Marx, Karl 1818-1883 (DE-588)118578537 p 3\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-06228-2 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-44322-7 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511527487 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
