Zusammenfassung: | This study aims to update a classic of comparative revolutionary analysis, Crane Brinton's 1938 study The Anatomy of Revolution. It invokes the latest research and theoretical writing in history, political science and political sociology to compare and contrast, in their successive phases, the English Revolution of 1640–60, the French Revolution of 1789–99 and the Russian Revolution of 1917–29. This book intends to do what no other comparative analysis of revolutionary change has yet adequately done. It not only progresses beyond Marxian socioeconomic 'class' analysis and early 'revisionist' stresses on short-term, accidental factors involved in revolutionary causation and process; it also finds ways to reconcile 'state-centered' structuralist accounts of the three major European revolutions with postmodernist explanations of those upheavals that play up the centrality of human agency, revolutionary discourse, mentalities, ideology and political culture |

From revolutionary theory to revolutionary historiography: England, France, and Russia Ancien Régimes Transtitons: breatthroughs to revolution Revolutionary "Honeymoons"? The "Revolutionizing" of the revolutions Revolutionary climacterics Thermidor? Conclusion. "Revolutions from Below" and "Revolutions from Above." This study aims to update a classic of comparative revolutionary analysis, Crane Brinton's 1938 study The Anatomy of Revolution. It not only progresses beyond Marxian socioeconomic 'class' analysis and early 'revisionist' stresses on short-term, accidental factors involved in revolutionary causation and process; it also finds ways to reconcile 'state-centered' structuralist accounts of the three major European revolutions with postmodernist explanations of those upheavals that play up the centrality of human agency, revolutionary discourse, mentalities, ideology and political culture Geschichte 1642-1660 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1917-1929 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1789-1799 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Revolutions / Case studies Französische Revolution (DE-588)4018183-2 gnd rswk-swf Oktoberrevolution (DE-588)4043429-1 gnd rswk-swf Englischer Bürgerkrieg (DE-588)4134026-7 gnd rswk-swf Frankreich Großbritannien Sowjetunion Great Britain / History / Puritan Revolution, 1642-1660 France / History / Revolution, 1789-1799 Soviet Union / History / Revolution, 1917-1921 Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 gnd rswk-swf England (DE-588)4014770-8 gnd rswk-swf Sowjetunion (DE-588)4077548-3 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4522595-3 Fallstudiensammlung gnd-content Englischer Bürgerkrieg (DE-588)4134026-7 s Französische Revolution (DE-588)4018183-2 s Oktoberrevolution (DE-588)4043429-1 s 1\p DE-604 Sowjetunion (DE-588)4077548-3 g Geschichte 1917-1929 z 2\p DE-604 England (DE-588)4014770-8 g Geschichte 1642-1660 z 3\p DE-604 Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 g Geschichte 1789-1799 z 4\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-1-107-04572-9 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-1-107-62360-6 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9781107053823 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
