Zusammenfassung: | In this compelling book Pippa Norris and Joni Lovenduski provide the first full account of legislative recruitment in Britain for twenty-five years. Their central concern is how and why some politicians succeed in moving into the highest offices of state, while others fail. The book examines the relative dearth of women, black and working-class Members of Parliament, and whether the evident social bias in the British political élite matters for political representation. Legislative recruitment concerns the critical step from lower levels (activists, local counsellors) to a parliamentary career. The authors draw evidence from the first systematic surveys of parliamentary candidates, Members of Parliament and party selectors, as well as detailed personal interviews. The study explores how and why people become politicians, and the consequences for parties, legislatures and representative government |

Reforming recruitment -- App. A: Details of the survey design and sample -- App. B: Questionnaires In this compelling book Pippa Norris and Joni Lovenduski provide the first full account of legislative recruitment in Britain for twenty-five years. The study explores how and why people become politicians, and the consequences for parties, legislatures and representative government Great Britain / Parliament / Elections Großbritannien Parliament (DE-588)1221916-2 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien Parliament House of Commons (DE-588)35578-1 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1945-1992 gnd rswk-swf Minderheit Legislators / Recruiting / Great Britain Nominations for office / Great Britain Women legislators / Great Britain Minorities / Political activity / Great Britain Representative government and representation / Great Britain Partei (DE-588)4044737-6 gnd rswk-swf Auswahl (DE-588)4214540-5 gnd rswk-swf Abgeordneter (DE-588)4000135-0 gnd rswk-swf Sozialstatus (DE-588)4077618-9 gnd rswk-swf Soziale Herkunft (DE-588)4121684-2 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien Großbritannien Parliament House of Commons (DE-588)35578-1 b Abgeordneter (DE-588)4000135-0 s Auswahl (DE-588)4214540-5 s Sozialstatus (DE-588)4077618-9 s Soziale Herkunft (DE-588)4121684-2 s Partei (DE-588)4044737-6 s Geschichte 1945-1992 z 1\p DE-604 Großbritannien Parliament (DE-588)1221916-2 b 2\p DE-604 Lovenduski, Joni Sonstige oth Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-46558-8 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-46961-6 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511598609 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
