Zusammenfassung: | The subject of this book is the confrontation between the American reform tradition, historically inward-looking, and the first of the world conflicts in which the United States has been involved in the twentieth century. It focuses upon those writers and journals most prominently associated with 'the progressive movement' and examines their response to the First World War and the effect of the war on their thinking. During 'the progressive era' a number of journalists and authors had acquired national reputations as social critics or as spokesmen for reform. This thoroughly researched account revises earlier views about both the attitudes of progressives toward the war and the decline of 'the progressive movement.' It will be of interest to students of the intellectual history of American foreign policy as well as of progressivism |

It focuses upon those writers and journals most prominently associated with 'the progressive movement' and examines their response to the First World War and the effect of the war on their thinking. During 'the progressive era' a number of journalists and authors had acquired national reputations as social critics or as spokesmen for reform. This thoroughly researched account revises earlier views about both the attitudes of progressives toward the war and the decline of 'the progressive movement.' It will be of interest to students of the intellectual history of American foreign policy as well as of progressivism Geschichte 1900-2000 Außenpolitik Geschichte Politik Weltkrieg (1914-1918) World War, 1914-1918 / Public opinion Press / United States / History / 20th century Reformers / United States / History / 20th century Public opinion / United States Publizistik (DE-588)4047770-8 gnd rswk-swf Erster Weltkrieg (DE-588)4079163-4 gnd rswk-swf Progressive Movement (DE-588)4175866-3 gnd rswk-swf Journalist (DE-588)4028781-6 gnd rswk-swf Öffentliche Meinung (DE-588)4043152-6 gnd rswk-swf USA United States / Politics and government / 1901-1953 United States / Foreign relations / 20th century USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Journalist (DE-588)4028781-6 s Progressive Movement (DE-588)4175866-3 s Erster Weltkrieg (DE-588)4079163-4 s 1\p DE-604 Publizistik (DE-588)4047770-8 s 2\p DE-604 Öffentliche Meinung (DE-588)4043152-6 s 3\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-25289-8 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-54412-2 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511528736 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
