Zusammenfassung: | This is a highly original and revisionist analysis of British and American efforts to forge a stable Euro-Atlantic peace order between 1919 and the rise of Hitler. Patrick Cohrs argues that this order was not founded at Versailles but rather through the first 'real' peace settlements after World War I - the London reparations settlement of 1924 and the Locarno security pact of 1925. Crucially, both fostered Germany's integration into a fledgling transatlantic peace system, thus laying the only realistic foundations for European stability. What proved decisive was that key decision-makers drew lessons from the 'Great War' and Versailles' shortcomings. Yet Cohrs also re-appraises why they could not sustain the new order, master its gravest crisis - the Great Depression - and prevent Nazism's onslaught. Despite this ultimate failure, he concludes that the 'unfinished peace' of the 1920s prefigured the terms on which a more durable peace could be founded after 1945 |

Despite this ultimate failure, he concludes that the 'unfinished peace' of the 1920s prefigured the terms on which a more durable peace could be founded after 1945 Dawesplan (DE-588)4126284-0 gnd rswk-swf Locarno-Verträge (DE-588)4168006-6 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1919-1929 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte gnd rswk-swf World politics / 1919-1932 Londoner Konferenzen 1921 (DE-588)4182567-6 gnd rswk-swf Friedenspolitik (DE-588)4155441-3 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 g Friedenspolitik (DE-588)4155441-3 s Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 g Geschichte 1919-1929 z 1\p DE-604 USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g 2\p DE-604 Dawesplan (DE-588)4126284-0 u Geschichte z 3\p DE-604 Locarno-Verträge (DE-588)4168006-6 u 4\p DE-604 Londoner Konferenzen 1921 (DE-588)4182567-6 s 5\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-72343-5 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-85353-8 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511497001 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
