Zusammenfassung: | This book explores Korea's place in terms of multiple levels and domains of interaction pertaining to foreign-policy behaviors and relations with the four regional/global powers (China, Russia, Japan, and the United States). The synergy of global transformations has now brought to an end Korea's proverbial identity and role as the helpless shrimp among whales, and both North Korea and South Korea have taken on new roles in the process of redefining and projecting their national identities. Synthetic national identity theory offers a useful perspective on change and continuity in Korea's turbulent relationships with the great powers over the years. Following a review of Korean diplomatic history and competing theoretical approaches, along with a synthetic national-identity theory as an alternative approach, one chapter each is devoted to how Korea relates to the four powers in turn, and the book concludes with a consideration of inter-Korean relations and potential reunification |

Kim The Two Koreas & the Great Powers Cambridge Cambridge University Press 2006 1 online resource (xvi, 405 pages) txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Title from publisher's bibliographic system (viewed on 05 Oct 2015) Introduction : Korea and the great powers in a changing world -- China and the two Koreas -- Russia and the two Koreas -- Japan and the two Koreas -- The United States and the two Koreas -- The future of the two Koreas This book explores Korea's place in terms of multiple levels and domains of interaction pertaining to foreign-policy behaviors and relations with the four regional/global powers (China, Russia, Japan, and the United States). Following a review of Korean diplomatic history and competing theoretical approaches, along with a synthetic national-identity theory as an alternative approach, one chapter each is devoted to how Korea relates to the four powers in turn, and the book concludes with a consideration of inter-Korean relations and potential reunification Außenpolitik Politik World politics / 21st century Internationale Politik (DE-588)4072885-7 gnd rswk-swf Außenpolitik (DE-588)4003846-4 gnd rswk-swf Ostasien USA Korea (South) / Politics and government Korea (North) / Politics and government United States / Foreign relations / 21st century East Asia / Foreign relations Südkorea (DE-588)4078029-6 gnd rswk-swf Japan (DE-588)4028495-5 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf China (DE-588)4009937-4 gnd rswk-swf Nordkorea (DE-588)4075468-6 gnd rswk-swf Korea (DE-588)4032466-7 gnd rswk-swf Russland (DE-588)4076899-5 gnd rswk-swf China (DE-588)4009937-4 g Außenpolitik (DE-588)4003846-4 s Nordkorea (DE-588)4075468-6 g Südkorea (DE-588)4078029-6 g 1\p DE-604 Russland (DE-588)4076899-5 g 2\p DE-604 USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g 3\p DE-604 Japan (DE-588)4028495-5 g 4\p DE-604 Internationale Politik (DE-588)4072885-7 s 5\p DE-604 Korea (DE-588)4032466-7 g 6\p DE-604 7\p DE-604 8\p DE-604 9\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-66063-1 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-66899-6 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511510496 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 6\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 7\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 8\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 9\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
