Zusammenfassung: | It is commonly assumed that the issue of religion declines in political significance as societies modernise. However, the upheaval associated with the shift from authoritarian to more open regimes can be accompanied by a revitalisation of religion. Individuals within these societies are struggling to find meaning in the seeming chaos of political change; religious elites are seeking to define their own role within the new order; and political elites are looking for new ways of ensuring legitimacy and building national unity. In this book John Anderson constructs a theoretical framework where he compares and contrasts the politics of religious liberty in two Southern European countries, two Central-Eastern European countries and the evolution of the former USSR, particularly Russia. Exploring these issues of religious 'recognition' and religious diversity, Anderson attempts to expose the wider problem of creating a democratic mentality in such transitional societies, through extensive original research and interviews |

spelling | Anderson, John 1955 September 19- Verfasser aut Religious liberty in transitional societies the politics of religion John Anderson Cambridge Cambridge University Press 2003 1 online resource (ix, 219 pages) txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Title from publisher's bibliographic system (viewed on 05 Oct 2015) Southern Europe: Spain and Greece -- Central and Eastern Europe: Poland and Bulgaria -- The former USSR: Russia and the successor states -- Justifying religious 'recognition' and/or discrimination -- Conclusion: culture, conflict, modernisation and religious liberty It is commonly assumed that the issue of religion declines in political significance as societies modernise. Exploring these issues of religious 'recognition' and religious diversity, Anderson attempts to expose the wider problem of creating a democratic mentality in such transitional societies, through extensive original research and interviews Geschichte 1900-2000 Geschichte 1970-2000 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1970-2002 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Religion Freedom of religion / Europe / History / 20th century Democracy / Religious aspects / History / 20th century Religion and politics / Europe / History / 20th century Religionsausübung (DE-588)4205115-0 gnd rswk-swf Religionsfreiheit (DE-588)4125186-6 gnd rswk-swf Religion (DE-588)4049396-9 gnd rswk-swf Demokratisierung (DE-588)4124941-0 gnd rswk-swf Politischer Wandel (DE-588)4175047-0 gnd rswk-swf Pluralismus (DE-588)4046401-5 gnd rswk-swf Europa Europe / Religion / 20th century Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 gnd rswk-swf Griechenland (DE-588)4022047-3 gnd rswk-swf Spanien (DE-588)4055964-6 gnd rswk-swf Polen (DE-588)4046496-9 gnd rswk-swf Bulgarien (DE-588)4008866-2 gnd rswk-swf Russland (DE-588)4076899-5 gnd rswk-swf Polen (DE-588)4046496-9 g Religionsfreiheit (DE-588)4125186-6 s Politischer Wandel (DE-588)4175047-0 s Bulgarien (DE-588)4008866-2 g Russland (DE-588)4076899-5 g Spanien (DE-588)4055964-6 g Griechenland (DE-588)4022047-3 g Geschichte 1970-2000 z 1\p DE-604 Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 g Religionsausübung (DE-588)4205115-0 s Geschichte 1970-2002 z 2\p DE-604 Religion (DE-588)4049396-9 s Pluralismus (DE-588)4046401-5 s Demokratisierung (DE-588)4124941-0 s 3\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-10812-6 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-82396-8 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511490859 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
