Zusammenfassung: | What kind of duty do we have to try to stop other people doing wrong? The question is intelligible in just about any culture, but few of them seek to answer it in a rigourous fashion. The most striking exception is found in the Islamic tradition, where 'commanding right' and 'forbidding wrong' is a central moral tenet already mentioned in the Koran. As an historian of Islam whose research has ranged widely over space and time, Michael Cook is well placed to interpret this complex subject. His book represents the first sustained attempt to map the history of Islamic reflection on this obligation. It covers the origins of Muslim thinking about 'forbidding wrong', the relevant doctrinal developments over the centuries, and its significance in Sunni and Shi'ite thought today. In this way the book contributes to the understanding of Islamic thought, its relevance to contemporary Islamic politics and ideology, and raises fundamental questions for the comparative study of ethics |

Beyond classical Islam What kind of duty do we have to try to stop other people doing wrong? In this way the book contributes to the understanding of Islamic thought, its relevance to contemporary Islamic politics and ideology, and raises fundamental questions for the comparative study of ethics Geschichte gnd rswk-swf Islamic ethics Religious life / Shīʻah Religious life / Islam Islam / Doctrines Islamische Theologie (DE-588)4335198-0 gnd rswk-swf Rechtsschule (DE-588)4177265-9 gnd rswk-swf Ethik (DE-588)4015602-3 gnd rswk-swf Gebot (DE-588)4138805-7 gnd rswk-swf Religiöses Leben (DE-588)4115741-2 gnd rswk-swf Islam (DE-588)4027743-4 gnd rswk-swf Pflicht (DE-588)4140391-5 gnd rswk-swf Verhinderung (DE-588)4332404-6 gnd rswk-swf Unrecht (DE-588)4117292-9 gnd rswk-swf Islam (DE-588)4027743-4 s Ethik (DE-588)4015602-3 s 1\p DE-604 Rechtsschule (DE-588)4177265-9 s 2\p DE-604 Religiöses Leben (DE-588)4115741-2 s 3\p DE-604 Unrecht (DE-588)4117292-9 s Verhinderung (DE-588)4332404-6 s Pflicht (DE-588)4140391-5 s Geschichte z DE-604 Islamische Theologie (DE-588)4335198-0 s Gebot (DE-588)4138805-7 s Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-13093-6 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-66174-4 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511497452 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
