Zusammenfassung: | Focusing on émigrés from Baden, Württemberg and Hungary in four host societies (Switzerland, the Ottoman Empire, England and the United States), Heléna Tóth considers exile in the aftermath of the revolutions of 1848–9 as a European phenomenon with global dimensions. While exile is often presented as an individual challenge, Tóth studies its collective aspects in the realms of the family and of professional and social networks. Exploring the interconnectedness of these areas, she argues that although we often like to sharply distinguish between labor migration and exile, these categories were anything but stable after the revolutions of 1848–9; migration belonged to the personal narrative of the revolution for a broad section of the population. Moreover, discussions about exile and amnesty played a central role in formulating the legacy of the revolutions not only for the émigrés but for their social environment and, ultimately, the governments of the restoration |

Moreover, discussions about exile and amnesty played a central role in formulating the legacy of the revolutions not only for the émigrés but for their social environment and, ultimately, the governments of the restoration Geschichte 1800-1900 Geschichte 1848-1871 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Gesellschaft Revolutions / Social aspects / Europe / History / 19th century Germans / Migrations / History / 19th century Hungarians / Migrations / History / 19th century Exiles / History / 19th century Political refugees / History / 19th century Revolution 1848 (DE-588)4049688-0 gnd rswk-swf Flüchtling (DE-588)4017604-6 gnd rswk-swf Deutscher Flüchtling (DE-588)4414215-8 gnd rswk-swf Ungarische Revolution 1848-1849 (DE-588)7543525-1 gnd rswk-swf Exil (DE-588)4015959-0 gnd rswk-swf Ungarischer Flüchtling (DE-588)4375072-2 gnd rswk-swf Europa Schweiz Türkei USA Europe / History / 1848-1849 Switzerland / Social conditions / 19th century Turkey / Social conditions / 19th century England / Social conditions / 19th century United States / Social conditions / 19th century Württemberg (DE-588)4067029-6 gnd rswk-swf Ungarn (DE-588)4078541-5 gnd rswk-swf Schweiz (DE-588)4053881-3 gnd rswk-swf Baden (DE-588)4069065-9 gnd rswk-swf Osmanisches Reich (DE-588)4075720-1 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 gnd rswk-swf Ungarische Revolution 1848-1849 (DE-588)7543525-1 s Revolution 1848 (DE-588)4049688-0 s Deutscher Flüchtling (DE-588)4414215-8 s Ungarischer Flüchtling (DE-588)4375072-2 s Geschichte 1848-1871 z 1\p DE-604 Schweiz (DE-588)4053881-3 g Osmanisches Reich (DE-588)4075720-1 g Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 g USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Exil (DE-588)4015959-0 s DE-604 Baden (DE-588)4069065-9 g Württemberg (DE-588)4067029-6 g Flüchtling (DE-588)4017604-6 s Ungarn (DE-588)4078541-5 g Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-1-107-04663-4 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-1-107-68229-0 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9781107110335 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
