Zusammenfassung: | British culture underwent radical change in the eighteenth century with the emergence of new literary genres and new discourses of social analysis. As novelists developed new forms of fiction, writers of economic tracts and treatises sought a new language and a conceptual framework to describe the modern commercial state. In Commerce, Morality and the Eighteenth-Century Novel, Liz Bellamy argues that the evolution of the novel in eighteenth-century Britain needs to be seen in the context of the discursive conflict between economics and more traditional systems of social analysis. In a series of fresh readings of a wide range of novels, Bellamy shows how the novel contributed to the debate over public and private virtues and had to negotiate between commercial and anti-commercial ethics. The resulting choices were crucial in determining the structure as well as the moral content of the novel |

In a series of fresh readings of a wide range of novels, Bellamy shows how the novel contributed to the debate over public and private virtues and had to negotiate between commercial and anti-commercial ethics. spelling | Bellamy, Liz Verfasser aut Commerce, morality and the eighteenth-century novel Liz Bellamy Commerce, Morality & the Eighteenth-Century Novel Cambridge Cambridge University Press 1998 1 online resource (vii, 223 pages) txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Title from publisher's bibliographic system (viewed on 05 Oct 2015) British culture underwent radical change in the eighteenth century with the emergence of new literary genres and new discourses of social analysis. The resulting choices were crucial in determining the structure as well as the moral content of the novel Geschichte 1700-1800 Geschichte 1740-1800 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1700-1800 gnd rswk-swf Ethik Geschichte English fiction / 18th century / History and criticism Commerce in literature Didactic fiction, English / History and criticism Literature and morals / History / 18th century Commerce / Moral and ethical aspects Moral conditions in literature Ethics, Modern / 18th century Ethics in literature Wirtschaft (DE-588)4066399-1 gnd rswk-swf Moral (DE-588)4040222-8 gnd rswk-swf Wirtschaftsethik (DE-588)4066439-9 gnd rswk-swf Roman (DE-588)4050479-7 gnd rswk-swf Ethik (DE-588)4015602-3 gnd rswk-swf Englisch (DE-588)4014777-0 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 gnd rswk-swf Englisch (DE-588)4014777-0 s Roman (DE-588)4050479-7 s Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 g Wirtschaft (DE-588)4066399-1 s Geschichte 1740-1800 z 1\p DE-604 Wirtschaftsethik (DE-588)4066439-9 s Geschichte 1700-1800 z 2\p DE-604 Ethik (DE-588)4015602-3 s 3\p DE-604 Moral (DE-588)4040222-8 s 4\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-02037-4 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-62224-0 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511585135 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
