Zusammenfassung: | Ernest Solvay, philanthropist and organizer of the world-famous Solvay conferences on physics, discovered a profitable way of making soda ash in 1861. Together with a handful of associates, he laid the foundations of the Solvay company, which successfully branched out into other chemicals, plastics and pharmaceuticals. Since its emergence in 1863, Solvay has maintained world leadership in the production of soda ash. This is the first scholarly book on the history of the Solvay company, which was one of the earliest chemical multinationals and today is among the world's twenty largest chemical companies. It is also one of the largest companies in the field to preserve its family character. The authors analyze the company's 150-year history (1863–2013) from economic, political and social perspectives, showing the enormous impact geopolitical events had on the company and the recent consequences of global competition |

The authors analyze the company's 150-year history (1863–2013) from economic, political and social perspectives, showing the enormous impact geopolitical events had on the company and the recent consequences of global competition Solvay, Ernest / 1838-1922 Solvay, Ernest 1837-1922 (DE-588)11747598X gnd rswk-swf Solvay S.A. / History Solvay Firma (DE-588)5018742-9 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1863-2012 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Multinationales Unternehmen Chemical industry / Belgium / History International business enterprises / Belgium Philanthropists / Belgium Familienbetrieb (DE-588)4503339-0 gnd rswk-swf Chemische Industrie (DE-588)4009848-5 gnd rswk-swf Multinationales Unternehmen (DE-588)4075092-9 gnd rswk-swf Belgien Belgien (DE-588)4005406-8 gnd rswk-swf Belgien (DE-588)4005406-8 g Chemische Industrie (DE-588)4009848-5 s Geschichte 1863-2012 z 1\p DE-604 Solvay, Ernest 1837-1922 (DE-588)11747598X p Familienbetrieb (DE-588)4503339-0 s Multinationales Unternehmen (DE-588)4075092-9 s 2\p DE-604 Solvay Firma (DE-588)5018742-9 b 3\p DE-604 Coupain, Nicolas 1978- Sonstige oth Homburg, Ernst 1952- Sonstige oth Kurgan-van Hentenryk, Ginette 1938- Sonstige (DE-588)142509280 oth Mioche, Philippe Sonstige oth Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-1-107-02480-9 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-1-107-43693-0 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9781139176057 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
