Zusammenfassung: | In 1914, the armies and navies that faced each other were alike right down to the strengths of their companies and battalions and the designs of their battleships and cruisers. Differences were of degree rather than essence. During the interwar period, however, the armed forces grew increasingly asymmetrical, developing different approaches to the same problems. This 1996 study of major military innovations in the 1920s and 1930s explores differences in exploitation by the seven major military powers. The comparative essays investigate how and why innovation occurred or did not occur, and explain much of the strategic and operative performance of the Axis and Allies in World War II. The essays focus on several instances of how military services developed new technology and weapons and incorporated them into their doctrine, organisation and styles of operations |

Millett -- Military innovation in peacetime / Barry Watts and Williamson Murray In 1914, the armies and navies that faced each other were alike right down to the strengths of their companies and battalions and the designs of their battleships and cruisers. The essays focus on several instances of how military services developed new technology and weapons and incorporated them into their doctrine, organisation and styles of operations Geschichte 1900-2000 Geschichte 1919-1939 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Military history, Modern / 20th century Military art and science / Technological innovations / History / 20th century World politics / 1919-1932 World politics / 1933-1945 Militär (DE-588)4039305-7 gnd rswk-swf Technische Innovation (DE-588)4431027-4 gnd rswk-swf Strategie (DE-588)4057952-9 gnd rswk-swf 1\p (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Militär (DE-588)4039305-7 s Technische Innovation (DE-588)4431027-4 s Geschichte 1919-1939 z 2\p DE-604 Strategie (DE-588)4057952-9 s 3\p DE-604 Murray, Williamson 1941-2023 (DE-588)121529290 edt Millett, Allan Reed 1937- (DE-588)139326790 edt Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-55241-7 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-63760-2 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511601019 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
