Zusammenfassung: | This book compares resistance to technology across time, nations, and technologies. Three post-war examples - nuclear power, information technology, and biotechnology - are used in the analysis. The focus is on post-1945 Europe, with comparisons made with the USA, Japan, and Australia. Instead of assuming that resistance contributes to the failure of a technology, the main thesis of the book is that resistance is a constructive force in technological development, giving technology its particular shape in a particular context. Whilst many people still believe in the positive contribution made by science and technology, many have become sceptical. By exploring the idea that modernity creates effects that undermine its own foundations, forms and effects of resistance are explored in various contexts. The book presents a unique interdisciplinary study, including contributions from historians, sociologists, psychologists, and political scientists |

The book presents a unique interdisciplinary study, including contributions from historians, sociologists, psychologists, and political scientists Gesellschaft Technology assessment / Congresses Technology assessment / Europe / Congresses Nuclear energy / Social aspects / Congresses Information technology / Social aspects / Congresses Biotechnology / Social aspects / Congresses Neue Technologie (DE-588)4194462-8 gnd rswk-swf Risikoanalyse (DE-588)4137042-9 gnd rswk-swf Informationstechnik (DE-588)4026926-7 gnd rswk-swf Technik (DE-588)4059205-4 gnd rswk-swf Widerstand (DE-588)4079262-6 gnd rswk-swf Technikbewertung (DE-588)4078176-8 gnd rswk-swf Kernenergie (DE-588)4030318-4 gnd rswk-swf Biotechnologie (DE-588)4069491-4 gnd rswk-swf Europa (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift gnd-content Biotechnologie (DE-588)4069491-4 s Technikbewertung (DE-588)4078176-8 s 1\p DE-604 Kernenergie (DE-588)4030318-4 s 2\p DE-604 Technik (DE-588)4059205-4 s Risikoanalyse (DE-588)4137042-9 s 3\p DE-604 Widerstand (DE-588)4079262-6 s 4\p DE-604 5\p DE-604 Neue Technologie (DE-588)4194462-8 s 6\p DE-604 Informationstechnik (DE-588)4026926-7 s 7\p DE-604 Bauer, Martin W. edt Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-45518-3 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-59948-1 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511563706 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 6\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 7\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
