Zusammenfassung: | The authors offer a unique exploration of the formative effects of children's early life experiences, with an emphasis on interactions among neurodevelopmental, behavioural and cultural dynamics. Multidisciplinary case studies focus on specific periods of development, or windows of susceptibility, during which care giving and other cultural practices potentially have a long-lasting impact on brain and behaviour. Chapters describe in detail: how social experience interacts with neurodevelopmental disorders; how epigenetic mechanisms mediate the effects of early environment; the interaction of temperament and environmental influences; the implications of early life stress or trauma for mental health and well-being; and the cultural shaping of sexual development and gender identity. The final section translates insights from this work into a fresh appraisal of child-rearing practices, clinical interventions and global public health policy that affect the mental health and well-being of children around the world |

spelling | Formative experiences the interaction of caregiving, culture, and developmental psychobiology edited by Carol M. Worthman [and three others] Cambridge Cambridge University Press 2010 1 Online-Ressource (xxxiv, 587 Seiten) txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Title from publisher's bibliographic system (viewed on 05 Oct 2015) The authors offer a unique exploration of the formative effects of children's early life experiences, with an emphasis on interactions among neurodevelopmental, behavioural and cultural dynamics. The final section translates insights from this work into a fresh appraisal of child-rearing practices, clinical interventions and global public health policy that affect the mental health and well-being of children around the world Parenting / Cross-cultural studies Developmental psychobiology Parenting Cross-cultural studies Interaktion (DE-588)4027266-7 gnd rswk-swf Psychosoziale Entwicklung (DE-588)4136729-7 gnd rswk-swf Erziehung (DE-588)4015482-8 gnd rswk-swf Physiologische Psychologie (DE-588)4076126-5 gnd rswk-swf Kultur (DE-588)4125698-0 gnd rswk-swf Kind (DE-588)4030550-8 gnd rswk-swf Psychobiologie (DE-588)4047692-3 gnd rswk-swf Eltern (DE-588)4014516-5 gnd rswk-swf Kulturvergleich (DE-588)4114328-0 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Eltern (DE-588)4014516-5 s Kind (DE-588)4030550-8 s Interaktion (DE-588)4027266-7 s Psychosoziale Entwicklung (DE-588)4136729-7 s Psychobiologie (DE-588)4047692-3 s DE-604 Physiologische Psychologie (DE-588)4076126-5 s Kultur (DE-588)4125698-0 s Erziehung (DE-588)4015482-8 s Kulturvergleich (DE-588)4114328-0 s Worthman, C.
