Zusammenfassung: | Civil wars pose some of the most difficult problems in the world today and the United Nations is the organization generally called upon to bring and sustain peace. Lise Morjé Howard studies the sources of success and failure in UN peacekeeping. Her in-depth 2007 analysis of some of the most complex UN peacekeeping missions debunks the conventional wisdom that they habitually fail, showing that the UN record actually includes a number of important, though understudied, success stories. Using systematic comparative analysis, Howard argues that UN peacekeeping succeeds when field missions establish significant autonomy from UN headquarters, allowing civilian and military staff to adjust to the post-civil war environment. In contrast, failure frequently results from operational directives originating in UN headquarters, often devised in relation to higher-level political disputes with little relevance to the civil war in question. Howard recommends future reforms be oriented toward devolving decision-making power to the field missions |

Situational difficulty before the start of the UN peacekeeping operation Civil wars pose some of the most difficult problems in the world today and the United Nations is the organization generally called upon to bring and sustain peace. Howard recommends future reforms be oriented toward devolving decision-making power to the field missions Vereinte Nationen United Nations / Peacekeeping forces Vereinte Nationen (DE-588)333-5 gnd rswk-swf Vereinte Nationen Friedensmission (DE-588)4437414-8 gnd rswk-swf Intervention (International law) Civil war / Protection of civilians Civil War Friedenskonsolidierung (DE-588)7604836-6 gnd rswk-swf Bürgerkrieg (DE-588)4008784-0 gnd rswk-swf Organisatorisches Lernen (DE-588)4198012-8 gnd rswk-swf Friedenssichernde Maßnahme (DE-588)4679328-8 gnd rswk-swf Nachkriegszeit (DE-588)4421423-6 gnd rswk-swf Vereinte Nationen Friedensmission (DE-588)4437414-8 b Bürgerkrieg (DE-588)4008784-0 s Nachkriegszeit (DE-588)4421423-6 s Friedenskonsolidierung (DE-588)7604836-6 s 1\p DE-604 Vereinte Nationen (DE-588)333-5 b Friedenssichernde Maßnahme (DE-588)4679328-8 s 2\p DE-604 Organisatorisches Lernen (DE-588)4198012-8 s 3\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-70767-1 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-88138-8 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511840593 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
