Zusammenfassung: | Health care in contemporary Japan - a modern industrial state with high technology, but a distinctly non-Western cultural tradition - operates on several different levels. In this book Emiko Ohnuki-Tierney provides a detailed and historically informed account of the cultural practices and cultural meaning of health care in urban Japan. In contrast to most ethnomedical studies, this book pays careful attention to everyday hygienic practices and beliefs, as well as presenting a comprehensive picture of formalized medicine, health care aspects of Japanese religions, and biomedicine. These different systems compete with one another at some levels, but are complementary in providing health care to urban Japanese, who often use more than one system simultaneously. As an unequalled portrayal of health care in a modern industrial, but non-Western, setting, it will be of widespread interest to scholars and students of anthropology, medicine, and East Asian studies |

As an unequalled portrayal of health care in a modern industrial, but non-Western, setting, it will be of widespread interest to scholars and students of anthropology, medicine, and East Asian studies Alltag, Brauchtum Medical anthropology / Japan Traditional medicine / Japan Medical care / Japan Krankheit (DE-588)4032844-2 gnd rswk-swf Ethnologie (DE-588)4078931-7 gnd rswk-swf Hygiene (DE-588)4026331-9 gnd rswk-swf Medizin (DE-588)4038243-6 gnd rswk-swf Anthropologie (DE-588)4002230-4 gnd rswk-swf Gesellschaft (DE-588)4020588-5 gnd rswk-swf Volksmedizin (DE-588)4078940-8 gnd rswk-swf Japan / Social life and customs / 1945- Japan (DE-588)4028495-5 gnd rswk-swf Japan (DE-588)4028495-5 g Medizin (DE-588)4038243-6 s Anthropologie (DE-588)4002230-4 s 1\p DE-604 Gesellschaft (DE-588)4020588-5 s Krankheit (DE-588)4032844-2 s 2\p DE-604 Ethnologie (DE-588)4078931-7 s 3\p DE-604 Hygiene (DE-588)4026331-9 s 4\p DE-604 Volksmedizin (DE-588)4078940-8 s 5\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-25982-8 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-27786-0 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511621772 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
