Zusammenfassung: | This 2001 book is an attempt by a social scientist to explain the predicament of Gypsies (or Roma), Eastern Europe's largest ethnic minority, and their relationship to the region's states and societies. Barany examines the Gypsies' socioeconomic and political marginality and policies toward them through seven centuries and in seven East European states. He illuminates the reasons why the Roma have consistently occupied the bottom of social, economic, and political hierarchies regardless of historical period or geographic location. Barany argues that the current nostalgia of many Gypsies for the socialist period is easy to understand, given the disastrous effect of the post-communist socioeconomic transformation on the Roma's conditions over the last decade. He explains the impact of Gypsy political mobilization, and the activities of international organizations and NGOs, on government policies. This pioneering multidisciplinary work will engage political scientists, sociologists and historians, as well as students of ethnic and racial studies |

Romani Marginality Revisited -- Conclusion -- References This 2001 book is an attempt by a social scientist to explain the predicament of Gypsies (or Roma), Eastern Europe's largest ethnic minority, and their relationship to the region's states and societies. This pioneering multidisciplinary work will engage political scientists, sociologists and historians, as well as students of ethnic and racial studies Geschichte 1990-1999 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Romanies / Europe, Eastern / History Wirtschaft (DE-588)4066399-1 gnd rswk-swf Politik (DE-588)4046514-7 gnd rswk-swf Staatssozialismus (DE-588)4182676-0 gnd rswk-swf Minderheitenpolitik (DE-588)4170001-6 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte (DE-588)4020517-4 gnd rswk-swf Gesellschaft (DE-588)4020588-5 gnd rswk-swf Roma Volk (DE-588)4050473-6 gnd rswk-swf Zigeuner (DE-588)4067777-1 gnd rswk-swf Nationale Minderheit (DE-588)4039409-8 gnd rswk-swf Diktatur (DE-588)4149920-7 gnd rswk-swf Osteuropa (DE-588)4075739-0 gnd rswk-swf Osteuropa (DE-588)4075739-0 g Nationale Minderheit (DE-588)4039409-8 s Roma Volk (DE-588)4050473-6 s Politik (DE-588)4046514-7 s Wirtschaft (DE-588)4066399-1 s Gesellschaft (DE-588)4020588-5 s Geschichte 1990-1999 z 1\p DE-604 Zigeuner (DE-588)4067777-1 s Diktatur (DE-588)4149920-7 s 2\p DE-604 Minderheitenpolitik (DE-588)4170001-6 s 3\p DE-604 Geschichte (DE-588)4020517-4 s 4\p DE-604 5\p DE-604 Staatssozialismus (DE-588)4182676-0 s 6\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-00910-2 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-80410-3 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511817373 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 6\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
