Zusammenfassung: | In the last years of the nineteenth century peace proposals were first stimulated by fear of the danger of war rather than in consequence of its outbreak. In this study of the nature and history of international relations Mr Hinsley presents his conclusions about the causes of war and the development of men's efforts to avoid it. In the first part he examines international theories from the end of the middle ages to the establishment of the League of Nations in their historical setting. This enables him to show how far modern peace proposals are merely copies or elaborations of earlier schemes. He believes there has been a marked reluctance to test these theories not only against the formidable criticisms of men like Rousseau, Kant and Bentham, but also against what we have learned about the nature of international relations and the history of the practice of states. This leads him to the second part of his study - an analysis of the origins of the modern states' system and of its evolution between the eighteenth century and the First World War |

Hinsley Power & the Pursuit of Peace: Theory & Practice in the History of Relations Between States Cambridge Cambridge University Press 1967 1 online resource (416 pages) txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Title from publisher's bibliographic system (viewed on 05 Oct 2015) In the last years of the nineteenth century peace proposals were first stimulated by fear of the danger of war rather than in consequence of its outbreak. This leads him to the second part of his study - an analysis of the origins of the modern states' system and of its evolution between the eighteenth century and the First World War Geschichte gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Internationale Politik International relations / History Peace Friedenspolitik (DE-588)4155441-3 gnd rswk-swf Entspannungspolitik (DE-588)4046533-0 gnd rswk-swf Internationales politisches System (DE-588)4125488-0 gnd rswk-swf Theorie (DE-588)4059787-8 gnd rswk-swf Friede (DE-588)4071465-2 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte (DE-588)4020517-4 gnd rswk-swf Machtpolitik (DE-588)4168427-8 gnd rswk-swf Praxis (DE-588)4047068-4 gnd rswk-swf Internationale Politik (DE-588)4072885-7 gnd rswk-swf Internationale Politik (DE-588)4072885-7 s Theorie (DE-588)4059787-8 s Praxis (DE-588)4047068-4 s 1\p DE-604 Friede (DE-588)4071465-2 s 2\p DE-604 Geschichte (DE-588)4020517-4 s 3\p DE-604 Machtpolitik (DE-588)4168427-8 s 4\p DE-604 Internationales politisches System (DE-588)4125488-0 s 5\p DE-604 Friedenspolitik (DE-588)4155441-3 s 6\p DE-604 Entspannungspolitik (DE-588)4046533-0 s 7\p DE-604 Geschichte z 8\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-05274-0 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-09448-1 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511622458 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 6\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 7\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 8\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
