Zusammenfassung: | Far from sweeping the globe uniformly, the 'third wave of democratization' left burgeoning republics and resilient dictatorships in its wake. Applying more than a year of original fieldwork in Egypt, Iran, Malaysia, and the Philippines, in this book Jason Brownlee shows that the mixed record of recent democratization is best deciphered through a historical and institutional approach to authoritarian rule. Exposing the internal organizations that structure elite conflict, Brownlee demonstrates why the critical soft-liners needed for democratic transitions have been dormant in Egypt and Malaysia but outspoken in Iran and the Philippines. By establishing how ruling parties originated and why they impede change, Brownlee illuminates the problem of contemporary authoritarianism and informs the promotion of durable democracy |

spelling | Brownlee, Jason 1974- Verfasser aut Authoritarianism in an age of democratization Jason Brownlee Cambridge Cambridge University Press 2007 1 online resource (xiii, 264 pages) txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Title from publisher's bibliographic system (viewed on 05 Oct 2015) Far from sweeping the globe uniformly, the 'third wave of democratization' left burgeoning republics and resilient dictatorships in its wake. By establishing how ruling parties originated and why they impede change, Brownlee illuminates the problem of contemporary authoritarianism and informs the promotion of durable democracy Demokratisierung Authoritarianism Democratization Demokratisierung (DE-588)4124941-0 gnd rswk-swf Autoritarismus (DE-588)4232076-8 gnd rswk-swf Autoritärer Staat (DE-588)4256521-2 gnd rswk-swf Reform (DE-588)4115716-3 gnd rswk-swf Philippinen (DE-588)4045771-0 gnd rswk-swf Iran (DE-588)4027653-3 gnd rswk-swf Ägypten (DE-588)4000556-2 gnd rswk-swf Malaysia (DE-588)4037203-0 gnd rswk-swf Ägypten (DE-588)4000556-2 g Demokratisierung (DE-588)4124941-0 s Iran (DE-588)4027653-3 g Malaysia (DE-588)4037203-0 g Philippinen (DE-588)4045771-0 g 1\p DE-604 Autoritärer Staat (DE-588)4256521-2 s Reform (DE-588)4115716-3 s 2\p DE-604 Autoritarismus (DE-588)4232076-8 s 3\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-68966-3 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-86951-5 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511802348 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
