Zusammenfassung: | This is a study in the philosophy of social science. It takes the form of a comparative critique of three contemporary approaches: ordinary language philosophy, hermeneutics and critical theory, represented here respectively by Ludwig Wittgenstein, Paul Ricoeur and Jürgen Habermas. Part I is devoted to an exposition of these authors' views and of the traditions to which they belong. Its unifying thread is their common concern with language, a concern which nonetheless reveals important differences of approach. For whereas ordinary language philosophers tend to treat linguistic activity as the ultimate object of inquiry, both Ricoeur and Habermas regard it as a medium which betrays more fundamental dimensions of human experience and the social world. Part II complements the exposition with a critical analysis of its central themes: the conceptualisation of action, the methodology of interpretation, and the theory of reference and truth. The author defends many aspects of the work of Ricoeur and Habermas, such as the emphasis on power and ideology, the strategy of depth interpretation, and the link between consensus and truth; but he argues that there are serious deficiencies and obscurities in their work. He proposes solutions to these difficulties and concludes with a sketch of a critical and rationally justified theory for the interpretation of action - a critical hermeneutics |

Thompson Cambridge Cambridge University Press 1981 1 online resource (ix, 257 pages) txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Title from publisher's bibliographic system (viewed on 05 Oct 2015) This is a study in the philosophy of social science. He proposes solutions to these difficulties and concludes with a sketch of a critical and rationally justified theory for the interpretation of action - a critical hermeneutics Habermas, Jürgen 1929- (DE-588)118544209 gnd rswk-swf Ricur, Paul 1913-2005 (DE-588)118600613 gnd rswk-swf Wittgenstein, Ludwig 1889-1951 (DE-588)118634313 gnd rswk-swf Philosophie Sozialwissenschaften Social sciences / Philosophy Philosophie (DE-588)4045791-6 gnd rswk-swf Sozialwissenschaften (DE-588)4055916-6 gnd rswk-swf Hermeneutik (DE-588)4128972-9 gnd rswk-swf Kritische Theorie (DE-588)4073840-1 gnd rswk-swf Sprachphilosophie (DE-588)4056486-1 gnd rswk-swf Ricur, Paul 1913-2005 (DE-588)118600613 p Hermeneutik (DE-588)4128972-9 s 1\p DE-604 Habermas, Jürgen 1929- (DE-588)118544209 p Kritische Theorie (DE-588)4073840-1 s 2\p DE-604 Wittgenstein, Ludwig 1889-1951 (DE-588)118634313 p Sprachphilosophie (DE-588)4056486-1 s 3\p DE-604 Sozialwissenschaften (DE-588)4055916-6 s Philosophie (DE-588)4045791-6 s 4\p DE-604 Ricur, Paul 1913-2005 Sonstige (DE-588)118600613 oth Habermas, Jürgen 1929- Sonstige (DE-588)118544209 oth Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-23932-5 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-27666-5 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511609176 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
