Zusammenfassung: | Despite the fact that the majority of emigration today originates in the global south, most research has focused on the receiving states of Europe and North America, while very little attention has been paid to the policies of the sending states toward emigration or toward their nationals abroad. Taking the country cases of Morocco, Tunisia, Lebanon and Jordan, this work explores the relationship between the government of the sending states, the outmovement of their citizens and the communities of expatriates that have developed. By focusing on the evolution of government institutions charged with various aspects of expatriate affairs, this work breaks new ground in understanding the changing nature of the relationship between expatriates and their home state. Far from suggesting that the state is waning in importance, the conclusions indicate that this relationship provides evidence both of state resilience and of new trends in the practice of sovereignty |

Brand Cambridge Cambridge University Press 2006 1 online resource (xv, 246 pages) txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Cambridge Middle East studies 23 Title from publisher's bibliographic system (viewed on 05 Oct 2015) 1 1 States and their citizens abroad 2 24 State sovereignty, state resilience 3 45 Morocco: expatriates as subjects or citizens? 4 92 Tunisia's expatriates: an integral part of the national community? 5 133 Lebanon and its expatriates: a bird with two wings 6 176 Jordan: unwilling citizens, problematic expatriates 216 Conclusions: transnationalism, security and sovereignty Despite the fact that the majority of emigration today originates in the global south, most research has focused on the receiving states of Europe and North America, while very little attention has been paid to the policies of the sending states toward emigration or toward their nationals abroad. Far from suggesting that the state is waning in importance, the conclusions indicate that this relationship provides evidence both of state resilience and of new trends in the practice of sovereignty Migration Politik Auswanderungspolitik (DE-588)4427798-2 gnd rswk-swf Auswanderung (DE-588)4003920-1 gnd rswk-swf Naher Osten Middle East / Emigration and immigration / Case studies Africa, North / Emigration and immigration / Case studies Middle East / Emigration and immigration / Government policy / Case studies Africa, North / Emigration and immigration / Government policy / Case studies Marokko (DE-588)4037680-1 gnd rswk-swf Tunesien (DE-588)4061206-5 gnd rswk-swf Nordafrika (DE-588)4042482-0 gnd rswk-swf Naher Osten (DE-588)4068878-1 gnd rswk-swf Libanon (DE-588)4035567-6 gnd rswk-swf Jordanien (DE-588)4028750-6 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4522595-3 Fallstudiensammlung gnd-content Nordafrika (DE-588)4042482-0 g Auswanderung (DE-588)4003920-1 s Naher Osten (DE-588)4068878-1 g 1\p DE-604 Marokko (DE-588)4037680-1 g Auswanderungspolitik (DE-588)4427798-2 s 2\p DE-604 Jordanien (DE-588)4028750-6 g 3\p DE-604 4\p DE-604 Libanon (DE-588)4035567-6 g 5\p DE-604 6\p DE-604 Tunesien (DE-588)4061206-5 g 7\p DE-604 8\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-10091-5 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-85805-2 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511491498 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 5\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 6\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 7\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 8\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
