Postcommunist democratization: political discourses across thirteen countries
Democracy is not just a matter of constitutions, parliaments, elections, parties and the rule of law. Zusammenfassung: | Democracy is not just a matter of constitutions, parliaments, elections, parties and the rule of law. In order to see if or how democracy works, we must attend to what people make of it, and what they think they are doing as they engage with politics, or as politics engages them. This book examines the way democracy and democratization are thought about and lived by people in China, Russia and eleven other countries in the post-communist world. It shows how democratic politics (and sometimes authoritarian politics) work in these countries, and generates insights into the prospects for different kinds of political development. The authors explore the implications for what is probable and possible in terms of trajectories of political reform, and examine four roads to democratization: liberal, republican, participatory and statist. The book will be of interest to students and scholars of comparative politics, political theory and post-communist studies |

The book will be of interest to students and scholars of comparative politics, political theory and post-communist studies Gemeinschaft Unabhängiger Staaten (DE-588)2128486-6 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1991-2000 gnd rswk-swf Demokratisierung Politik Post-communism / Europe, Eastern Democratization / Europe, Eastern Demokratisierung (DE-588)4124941-0 gnd rswk-swf Europe, Eastern / Politics and government / 1989- China (DE-588)4009937-4 gnd rswk-swf Osteuropa (DE-588)4075739-0 gnd rswk-swf Osteuropa (DE-588)4075739-0 g Demokratisierung (DE-588)4124941-0 s Geschichte 1991-2000 z 1\p DE-604 China (DE-588)4009937-4 g 2\p DE-604 Gemeinschaft Unabhängiger Staaten (DE-588)2128486-6 b 3\p DE-604 Holmes, Leslie Sonstige oth Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-00138-0 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-80664-0 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511492112 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
