Zusammenfassung: | In 1979 Elizabeth Eisenstein provided the first full-scale treatment of the fifteenth-century printing revolution in the West in her monumental two-volume work, The Printing Press as an Agent of Change. This abridged edition, after summarising the initial changes introduced by the establishment of printing shops, goes on to discuss how printing challenged traditional institutions and affected three major cultural movements: the Renaissance, the Reformation and the rise of modern science. Also included is a later essay which aims to demonstrate that the cumulative processes created by printing are likely to persist despite the recent development of new communications technologies |

This abridged edition, after summarising the initial changes introduced by the establishment of printing shops, goes on to discuss how printing challenged traditional institutions and affected three major cultural movements: the Renaissance, the Reformation and the rise of modern science. Also included is a later essay which aims to demonstrate that the cumulative processes created by printing are likely to persist despite the recent development of new communications technologies Geschichte 1400-1700 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1300-1700 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1450-1700 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1450-1550 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Printing / Europe / History Technology and civilization Gesellschaft (DE-588)4020588-5 gnd rswk-swf Kultur (DE-588)4125698-0 gnd rswk-swf Geistesgeschichte (DE-588)4071653-3 gnd rswk-swf Entwicklung (DE-588)4113450-3 gnd rswk-swf Kulturwandel (DE-588)4033596-3 gnd rswk-swf Buchdruck (DE-588)4008598-3 gnd rswk-swf Buch (DE-588)4008570-3 gnd rswk-swf Drucktechnik (DE-588)4124801-6 gnd rswk-swf Europa Europe / Intellectual life Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 gnd rswk-swf Europa (DE-588)4015701-5 g Buchdruck (DE-588)4008598-3 s Kulturwandel (DE-588)4033596-3 s Geschichte 1400-1700 z DE-604 Drucktechnik (DE-588)4124801-6 s Gesellschaft (DE-588)4020588-5 s Entwicklung (DE-588)4113450-3 s Geschichte 1300-1700 z 1\p DE-604 Kultur (DE-588)4125698-0 s Geistesgeschichte (DE-588)4071653-3 s 2\p DE-604 Buch (DE-588)4008570-3 s Geschichte 1450-1550 z 3\p DE-604 Geschichte 1450-1700 z 4\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback 978-1-107-63275-2 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9781139197038 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 4\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
