Zusammenfassung: | How do a legal order and the rule of law develop in a war-torn state? Using his field research in Sudan, the author uncovers how colonial administrators, postcolonial governments and international aid agencies have used legal tools and resources to promote stability and their own visions of the rule of law amid political violence and war in Sudan. Tracing the dramatic development of three forms of legal politics - colonial, authoritarian and humanitarian - this book contributes to a growing body of scholarship on law in authoritarian regimes and on human rights and legal empowerment programs in the Global South. Refuting the conventional wisdom of a legal vacuum in failed states, this book reveals how law matters deeply even in the most extreme cases of states still fighting for political stability |

Refuting the conventional wisdom of a legal vacuum in failed states, this book reveals how law matters deeply even in the most extreme cases of states still fighting for political stability Geschichte 1898-2011 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Menschenrecht Politik Recht Rule of law / Sudan / History Law / Political aspects / Sudan / History Islamic law / Sudan / History Human rights / Sudan Authoritarianism / Sudan Politik (DE-588)4046514-7 gnd rswk-swf Menschenrecht (DE-588)4074725-6 gnd rswk-swf Recht (DE-588)4048737-4 gnd rswk-swf Islam (DE-588)4027743-4 gnd rswk-swf Rechtsstaat (DE-588)4129195-5 gnd rswk-swf Kolonialrecht (DE-588)4368471-3 gnd rswk-swf Sudan / Politics and government Sudan (DE-588)4058378-8 gnd rswk-swf Sudan (DE-588)4058378-8 g Kolonialrecht (DE-588)4368471-3 s Islam (DE-588)4027743-4 s Recht (DE-588)4048737-4 s Menschenrecht (DE-588)4074725-6 s Rechtsstaat (DE-588)4129195-5 s Politik (DE-588)4046514-7 s Geschichte 1898-2011 z 1\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-1-107-02607-0 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-1-107-44005-0 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9781139199247 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
