Zusammenfassung: | This 1992 book analyses the relation between an emergent modern subjectivity in seventeenth-century French literature, particularly in dramatic works, and the contemporaneous evolution of the absolutist state. It shows how major writers of the Classical period (Corneille, Racine, Moliere, Lafayette) elaborate a new subject in and through their representations of the family, and argues that the family serves as the mediating locus of a patriarchal ideology of sexual and political containment. Most importantly, it asks why the theatre became the privileged form of representation in this state, and why this theatre concentrates almost exclusively on family conflict. Professor Greenberg argues that the narrative of oedipal sexuality and subjugation central to this new literary canon reflected the conflicting social, political and economic forces that were shifting European society away from the universe of the Renaissance and guiding it towards the 'transparency' of Classical representation |

Professor Greenberg argues that the narrative of oedipal sexuality and subjugation central to this new literary canon reflected the conflicting social, political and economic forces that were shifting European society away from the universe of the Renaissance and guiding it towards the 'transparency' of Classical representation Geschichte 1600-1700 Geschichte 1600-1700 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte French literature / 17th century / History and criticism Politics and literature / France / History / 17th century Power (Social sciences) in literature Psychoanalysis and literature / France Subjectivity in literature Patriarchy in literature Sex role in literature Families in literature Classicism / France / History / 17th century Familie Motiv (DE-588)4123181-8 gnd rswk-swf Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 gnd rswk-swf Subjektivität (DE-588)4058323-5 gnd rswk-swf Französisch (DE-588)4113615-9 gnd rswk-swf Klassik (DE-588)4030960-5 gnd rswk-swf Frankreich Französisch (DE-588)4113615-9 s Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 s Subjektivität (DE-588)4058323-5 s Geschichte 1600-1700 z 1\p DE-604 Klassik (DE-588)4030960-5 s Familie Motiv (DE-588)4123181-8 s 2\p DE-604 3\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-03230-8 Erscheint auch als Druckausgabe 978-0-521-41293-3 https://doi.org/10.1017/CBO9780511553936 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
